CRITICAL INCIDENT STRESS MANAGEMENT
What is CISM?
Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) is a specialized system of crisis intervention. It is designed to help first responders manage the normal physical, emotional, and cognitive reactions that occur after a traumatic event. It is CONFIDENTIAL Peer Support, mental health tool-kit, a proven method to reduce PTSD
What It is NOT:
Psychotherapy or "shrink" sessions. An investigation of the incident. A critique of job performance.
The Continuum of Care:
Multi-Disciplinary Team of Volunteer make up the Coastal Bend CISM TEAM. Law Enforcement, Firefighters, Medics, 911 Dispatcher, chaplains, mental health professionals, Emergency Management, We Understand the cultural.
We provide a range of interventions tailored to the severity of the incident:
Defusing: Quick, informal "check-ins"
- immediately following a shift.
- Debriefing (CISD): A structured group process used to mitigate the impact of a major event.
- One-on-One: Private peer-to-peer support for individualized care.
- Pre-Incident Education: Training your team before the tragedy happens so they are resilient.
When to Call:
- Line-of-duty death or serious injury.
- Suicide of a colleague.
- Multi-casualty incidents.
- Incidents involving children.
- Any event that "stays with you" after the shift ends.
